Personality
Bradley isn't quite as curmudgeonly as one would expect an old man in this world to be like most of th etime, while he can be a little strict, it's often only out of concern for others. A fulfilled life pre-surge and his military training allowed him to see through mos tof the problems the world had to offer without power. He's seen humanity at its worst and even today the standards are nowhere near as grim as it once had been.
If he sees others in need, he will help them, he leases a helping hand in exchange for a little food and a safe place to rest, whilst even willingly teaching them self-defense and old soldier tactics as well as survival skills he learned pre-surge and after. He's quite happy working independantly or with others, though he can feel his age catching up to him.
A small part of Bradley has begun to wonder about the Surge and what more there was to it when it first happened. Perhaps his age has made him begin to think and worry a little more, but beyond that he wonders if perhaps there is something greater he can do to make sure that the world can turn back to the way it once was.

History
Bradley was born in Osaka, named after a childhood friend of his father, nineteen years before the surge. However his parent shad moved to America, following a job his father had acquired, it had been a good move, they were quickly registered as american citizens and his father Mifune quickly got involved in government work, his mother Yuriko struggled at first but managed to make life still rather homely.
Bradley grew up in a seemingly ordinary life, but also ina way it was a great one, traditional values mixe din with life as an american, he and his father would go fishing and even occasionally camping, his mother taught him traditional family arts whilst he went through school. He wasn't exceptionally intelligent but he had a good future ahead of him. Though the boiling wars did nothing to help he sitll managed ot make it to his teens.
His own choice in life was to become a soldier, when he left school he entered the military, unaware that by the time training was over the world would be plunged into darkness. He had tested his mettle in basic training but his advanced training was cut short. And so the Surge happened. His first thoughts lead himt o leave the military and return home, and so he did. Fear and anxiety were emotions he'd learn to push down and escape. His mother was fine, and so was his father, they were home when it happened. They stayed home at first to wait out the strange blackout, but nothing came of it, camping skills let them keep eating and get freshwater, but life was quickly changing, the people were rioting, the city was no longer safe.
So they left, it was the intelligent move to make. They had the skills to live in the wild, a handful of textbook guides and smarts. Bradley did what he could to share his knowledge and experiences of the army whilst together they fended off the troubles of the new dark world. Oddly, Bradley found himself managing rather well, there certainly were difficulties, but not so many that they couldnt manage. Perhaps coming fresh out of gruelling military trianing had made it easy to deal with a difficult new lifestyle. Either way he remained a pillar of confidence and strength that kept even his parents alive with hope.
It took them several years of trekking to eventually come across a good community. Luck and a good bit of wandering lead them to Illinois where Bradley scouted for several days alone before coming across the university. Without hesitation he lead his mother and father there, they could be productive and look after others in the same way, sharing their knowledge and aiding in the efforts to rebuild. However Bradley took it upon himself to wander far from Illinois for many more years, returning every so often with rare and useful supplies, tools, even occasional weapons, sometimes with wounds of his own, but he never seemed too weathered or ragged to continue.
He'd found a calling to life, even in a world gone dark, and he wasn't about to stop now. Whenever back in Illinois he will often teach others his techniques, how to fight, how to survive, before eventually wandering off again. A life of constant movement, fight and survival has made him resilient and unswaying in the face of peril, might as well make the most of it before he can no longer live life this way.
